The statistics for young people’s mental health state that rates of depression and anxiety have increased by 70% in the past 25 years. Eating disorders, self-harm and suicidal thoughts are other common mental health challenges. Mental health can affect a young person’s relationships, self-esteem, confidence, academic success and resilience. It can also increase a young person’s likelihood of engaging in substance misuse, becoming homeless or even suicidal.

What is NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)?

NLP is like a user’s manual for the brain helping people to understand their mind, improve relationships and communication, and find effective ways of reaching their goals. NLP with young people can support them to find out ‘how they tick’, what motivates them and develop positive strategies for improving resilience.

What will you learn?

The day will introduce you to NLP principles and models to help you understand how we ‘tick’ and make sense of our world. Using applied strategies and techniques of NLP and Positive Psychology you will be given the opportunity to explore these throughout the day and discuss how they best fit with the young people that you support in your work. The techniques are suitable for later primary up to 18 years.
